Congratulations to you all on not only and outstanding Ofsted report but also an outstanding SIAS report (Church School inspection). You have a wonderful school, wonderful staff and wonderful pupils. Particular congratulations to Mrs Race who, with others, worked so hard with particular responsibility for the SIAS inspection.

Just read ofsted report and feel very proud that my children are part of such a fantastic school. Thankyou to all teachers for their hard work which is obviously consistant throughout the year and not just at inspection times. Well Done!!
Lesley Ramsey
27 October 2009 08:36:26
I have just read the ofsted report. . wow. . how brilliant is that. Well done eveyone. Dodworth St Johns definitely deserves it. We are So proud of our OUTSTANDING school.

27 October 2009 08:18:22
Wow! What a fantastic Ofsted report. You should all be very proud of yourselves.
Thankyou to all the staff for their hard work. Now everyone else knows how fantastic our school is.
Adrian England, Chair of Governors
26 October 2009 19:22:35
On behalf of the School Governors I would like to thank all the School Management Team and all the staff for their hard work prior to and during the recent Ofsted Inspection.

We know that many staff had sleepless nights leading up to the inspection and most staff worked in the school over the weekend before the inspection.

Mr Goddard has outlined the findings of the report which has concluded that it is an OUTSTANDING school (the highest grading possible for a school).

We would also like to place on record thanks to all parents, community stakeholders and the church for their continued support.

Finally, we would like to thank all the pupils who are not only a credit to themselves but to the school.
Mr G
26 October 2009 15:07:30
Well we always knew it but it is official now under the judgement of OFSTED. Dodworth St Johns is an outstanding school. The full report is available on our site but i thought i would share the opening paragraph with you -

This is an outstanding school. Pupils’ well-being and achievement are at the centre of its drive for improvement. The school is very popular with parents who typically comment that, ‘It’s a great school. My child is achieving so much here.’

A huge thanks to all the staff, children, parents, governors and all stakeholders for all their continued support and hard work.

All staff at school will now carry on working hard to continually push the boundaries, ensuring that we maintain and provide the best opportunities for all of the children in our school.

Well done everyone.

Eco-schools, Green Flag Award - I understand that following the independent environmental audit which was carried out today; the school is to be awarded the prestigious Green Flag Award, the first school in Barnsley to achieve this accolade. On behalf of the School Governors and me, we would like to offer our sincere congratulations to the whole school for achieving this award. Everyone has done their part in attaining this honour and I can't wait to see the Green Flag outside the school, although we are going to have to find some money for a flag pole (don't worry we'll scrape it up from somewhere). All the school have played their part but particular thanks go to the Eco-council and Miss Tallant for all their hard work. Well done everyone!!!

Greetings to all at St John's from somewhere on the high seas between Vietnam and Cambodia. Visited Saigon yesterday and what a journey from the ship to the city. Traffic congestion like you have never seen! Thousands, and yes I mean thousands, of motor cycle scooters coming from every direction at junctions and roundabouts. Some of the scooters had as many as three passengers plus the driver. Often the whole family, dad (wearing protective headgear), young child and mum with no protective headgear. As soon as we arrived at a popular tourist spot we were ambushed by lots of street sellers trying to make a few dollars. Even young children pursued us trying to sell post cards. But in spite of all it was very intersting and the Vietnamese people are very friendly and welcoming. Best wishes to you all.

A big thank you from the School Governors to all the staff who have once again demonstrated their dedication to the school and its pupils by battling their way through the snow to keep the school open, they are a credit to the teaching and support professions. It was good to see that all the school enjoyed the snow on Tuesday, I don't think Mr G will make an eskimo, his attempt at building an igloo is not sustainable. Thanks also to all the pupils who have behaved so well (as they always do), they are continue to give the school a good name whether they are inside or outside the school - well done!! Finally, thanks to all the parents for their continued support. We will always try to keep the school open as long as it is safe to do so. Adrian

03 February 2009 17:32:53
A huge thank you to all the staff for all their hard work, especially today, as without them we would not have been able to open the school. All the children certainly had a day that they will not forget for a long time. What a great day - the teachers are all big kids at heart! If you don't believe me just ask the children.

I would also like to thank the parents for their continued support over the last few days. I know it has been a struggle getting everyone in but it is greatly appreciated.

AND - last but not least, thank you to all the children who have behaved so sensibly during the snow and had a great time because of it. Well done to you all.
BRING ON THE NEXT BATCH OF SNOW!!!!

Hi Everyone,

A big thank you to all at Birdwell theatre. The panto was great as usual and all of the children and staff had a fantastic time....even though we got soaked! Well done to all the children on your excellent behaviour, you are a real credit to our school. I am always proud to take you out on a school trip. I still think Mrs Hepworth and I could shout the loudest though!

I have to agree with Adelle and Caitlan. What a fantastic afternoon at Sheffield Ice for 'Chritmas at the musicals'. The show was amazing and it was great to see all of our children singing along, dancing in their seats and generally having fun.
All of the classes were very impressed by Sarah's skating - looked like a professional not someone who has only been skating for 4 months. Well done Sarah.
Once again it was an honour taking out children out - they were a real credit to the school.

Hi Caitlan.
The football last night was a close run thing in both games. In the first game we won 3-0 and in the second were unlucky to lose 2-1. It was a great effort by both teams and they should all be proud of their performance.
If we look at the aggregate score you could say we won 4-2!!

I would just like to say a huge thankyou to all of the parents who were involved in organising the end of year prom for Yr 6. The children (and adults) really loved the evening and it was fantastic to see how grown up they all looked in their posh dresses and suits. I would just like to say a huge THANK YOU to Mr Wright, Mrs Smith and Ms French for taking 35 of our school to Kingswood this week. After driving down on Thursday it was great to see how much fun all the children were having (and the staff come to think of it). Bring on Robinwood next year - a three day residential at Todmorden in July. Time for staff to start asking if they can go.
I think that the last thank you has to go to our children. All the staff at Kingswood - ours and theirs, could not praise the attitudes, manners and freindlines of our school. What a great week for all and another example of how great our children are. Well done guys. What a way to end the year!

Hola a todos!

First of all I was very sorry to hear that the school was flooded, and now very happy as it is back to normal. Jerusalem is so far away, but not enough to stop hearing about Dodworth St. John´s! I have to say I miss you all, both kids and members of staff. Every time I think about you it brings me lots of good memories.
Life here is much more different than in England but I´m getting on with it. I continue teaching...but my new students are older than you kids! Keep up the good work in Dodworth, vale? And remember how important is to speak another language and how easy it could be if you try hard and make an effort. Remember how well you did with me, you did it muy bien!
Adios amigos!

A big thank you to all the staff and volunteersfor their dedication in cleaning up the school and saving the furniture and equipment from further damage following the recent flooding. Their hard work will hopefully mean that we will be able to re-open the school soon and that it will be an even better place than before. We should always remember that it is not the building that makes a Dodworth St John's such a superb school - it is the outstanding staff that work there, the brilliant children who go there and the parents/carers and volunteers who give their support freely to all that is being achieved there. Finally, my thanks also go to all the parents/carers and the children for their kind patience during the present problems and we hope to see you all back in school soon.
God Bless

Hello. I was a student at Dodworth St.John's just before Christmas and really enjoyed my time there, I enjoyed it that much that I am returning as a student on the 23rd May through to the 6th July. I am leaving Barnsley college on the 6th July with a Diploma in child care and education, and soon will be searching for a job. I'm looking to work as a full time teaching assistant, and would be delighted if you could inform me asap when there are any available jobs within the school. I've visited so many schools around Barnsley and none compare (I'm not just saying that), I really hope to hear from you. Thanks, and I'll see you all at the end of May! Melissa Butler.

WOW - what a fantastic time I am having in Colombia. The schools over here are a lot different to ours. As you can see from one of the guestbook entries I have met Carolina Rodrigues and we are trying to get her over to the UK. She teaches at a school I have been in for 2 days and they have 3000 students from the age of 4 up to 17. Schools have so little resources and come from very poor homes. I have taken lots of photos and will show you them if you want when I get back on Monday morning. We may also be able to link up with some of the schools via a web cam and chat with them in Spanish and English. Yr 6 be warned - I may be a little tired no the first day back as I will have traveled for 24 hrs on the Sunday. Hope everyone is well back home. See you all soon.
